Surgery abroad and medical after-care
For many clients, deciding to go abroad for cosmetic surgery raises an issue of concern regarding their medical after-care when returning home.
The level of after-care required post-surgery is dependant upon a number of factors such as the type of surgery performed, how the recovery is progressing and the individual requirements of the patient.
Generally a procedure such as a breast augmentation requires an overnight stay in hospital while an abdominoplasty (tummy tuck) will require a five-day hospital stay for observation.
Most surgeons do recommend a minimum of seven-day post-surgery in the destination of choice to enable adequate follow-up and give the surgeon the opportunity to monitor the treated area.
Rest and recuperation is also essential post-surgery to ensure adequate recovery and healing time both physically and emotionally. So, if you are only planning a short trip abroad and wish to return home immediately after surgery, then the level of after-care you receive will be somewhat diminished.
On the other hand, if you wish to extend your stay overseas for a few weeks, then if any post-surgery complications do occur you will only be a short trip away from the hospital and your surgeon!
Regardless of how long you choose to stay in your destination of choice, it is critical for all patients post-surgery to follow the medical after-care instructions and advice from your surgeon.
