I don't even know where to start when asked to write about my little adventure overseas - or as I told people at home "my course I was going on for work".
I was booked into a very well known plastic surgery in Auckland to get liposuction and breast implants which was going to cost around $30,000, (not including the $400 consultation), when my partner saw an advert for Restored Beauty Getaways..... I just about slapped him in the face when he said that I should look into it !!!
How dare he ask ME to go second rate?????
Or so I thought... I had heard so many stories about botched surgery that I wasn't having a bar of what he was mentioning. But eventually curiosity got the cat and I just had to look into it. I emailed Jo from Restored Beauty Getaways and I have to say that her prompt reply and help is what really opened my mind and dispelled the "Back Streets of Asia" I had imagined, where they would use blunt knives and used needles.
Jo was fantastic - she answered every one of my questions and my questions were typical of what a paranoid person would ask, but her patience and constant contact were what sold me..... One of my emails to her :
I am booked in with Dr ........... NZ Institute of Plastic Surgeons. It would be great to have a price comparison and I am totally open to have you do all the arrangements. I am just scared it is going to be a dodgy place and then it all goes wrong which I am sure others are scared of eh?
Never one to rest on her laurels, I was off the next week to have an operation that would have cost twice as much for me to get it done here in NZ.
But what I was amazed about was the fact that the facilities in Phuket were second to none. Having had a nose job in a private practice in Canada, I was just absolutely blown away by how beautiful the hospital was. The room I got to stay in was like a little hotel! And the nurses...what can I say but they are AMAZING! They really made me feel like I was their only patient!
I had my operation and I stayed two nights in the hospital. Getting the surgery done in NZ, they were going to send me home that same day ! Now after having recovered, I have no idea how they can think this is a good idea as I think I would have died - or given my partner a heart attack with the amount of assistance I needed.
After my two day stay I was taken back to my hotel which is nicer then any I have ever stayed in - and I am no 2 star girl, so have stayed in some pretty nice places!
I had constant contact with Jo and also with the overseas person from the hospital that was assigned to look after all the overseas patients - she was just fantastic.
I am now 7 weeks post op and have no reservations in recommending going abroad with Restored Beauty Getaways
I was your number one biggest skeptic, but now after having been through the operation, I see that the service and care I would have received in NZ is nothing compared to what I got in Phuket.
I can't fault anything about the trip and I am not just saying that. The after op care and efficient testing before the operation, is just world class.
I would tell anyone who is thinking about doing this to do your research and realize that they have top doctors who can offer services that New Zealand just does not have the money to.
